Legal consultations

Legal consultations for asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in the offices of CLA – Voice in Bulgaria and FAR, as well as in the “Special Homes for Temporary Accomodation of Foreigners” (SHTAF). Application of an innovative “case management” approach of holistic work on every case of a foreign national taken on, during all stages of his/her stay on the territory of the country, with a focus of ensuring respect for his/her human rights.

RECEPTION HOURS

Every Tuesday from 10:30 to 14:30h in the office of CLA – Voice in Bulgaria

(no need to set appointment in advance) 

 

Judicial and administrative representation

Legal representation at the administrative phase of the refugee or migration procedure, incl. attendance of interviews with the State Agency for the Refugees; assistance in dealing with institutions (e.g., the “Migration” Directorate of the MoI); litigation before national and European judicial instances, incl. strategic litigation.

 

Legal information sessions

in the closed-type centres of the MoI (SHTAF) in Sofia (Busmantsi district) and the town of Lyubimets with groups of detained persons, explaining in their language their rights and obligations, as well as the basic legal provisions in the area of asylum and migration that concern them.

Advocacy

Advocacy and communications campaigns for:

  • improving the quality of the procedure for international protection in accordance with European requirements and international law;
  • establishing of working mechanisms for access to justice in cases of human rights violations (e.g., push-backs and violence at the borders);
  • access to judicial oversight regarding placement in the closed-type centres;
  • real and just access to the labour market, the social systems, education and healthcare, etc.

TEAM

The Project “Efficient Legal Aid for Refugees and Migrants in Bulgaria” is implemented by CLA – Voice in Bulgaria in partnership with the Foundation for Access to Rights (FAR). Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria is a civil society organization, whose mission is to support and defend the rights of asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants on the territory of Bulgaria, by providing legal aid and conducting advocacy. Our overarching principle is the supremacy of all human rights and their respect, and non-discrimination on the basis of nationality, religion, ethnicity, gender or any other characteristic.

The purpose of Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria is to guarantee the human dignity of the migrant, the refugee, the foreigner, and to contribute to his or her empowerment and independence.

In the pursuit of its mission, Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria remains independent from any political, state, religious or corporate interest or influence.

PRO BONO PUBLICO – FOR THE COMMON GOOD

For over 10 years, Center for Legal Aid – Voice in Bulgaria (CLA)

  • Provides pro bono legal consultations to asylum seekers, refugees and other migrants, as well as representation in administrative and judicial proceedings at the national and European levels.
  • Provides pro bono legal consultations with foreign nationals placed in the “Special Homes for the Temporary Accommodation of Foreigners” of the “Migration Directorate” of the MoI
  • Conducts advocacy campaigns and activities aiming to establish institutional and judicial practices and legislation that comply with international and European human rights standards, and to change public attitudes.
  • Conducts research in the area of migration and migration policies and their implementation.
